New Balance 2.0

Friends, Fun, Introspection, Fear, Mountains, Transition in Barcelona

A few weeks ago, I finally managed to get some time off from this office. I travelled to Croatia during 12 days, starting in Dubrovnik, visiting the islands of Mljet, Korcula, Hvar and Brac, and finally heading to Zagreb and Ljubljana in Slovenia. This was a great trip and I felt so happy to travel alone while meeting fantastic people on my way. Thanks to Jody, Marco, Matthew, Stefan, Victor, Biljana and many others for sharing sometime together. It is such a nice feeling to get back to the basics and to enjoy every minute of the day without planning anything. Activities included sight seeing, swimming, camping, hiking, chilling out, watching sun sets, meeting incredible local people and a lot more. I am hoping to right a more extensive post about the trip with my notes from my personal diary. Actually, it is probably better if I keep those for me and share with you my pictures on Flickr.

I found this fascinating quote today:

It’s interesting what you can find when you look around a bit on Google. I thought I’d look for a few new ebooks to read. I found 20 different ones that might be interesting to you. It never hurts to get a few different perspectives. In all cases, the first link is to a PDF file, the second link is to the site where it’s hosted.20 Free eBooks About Social Media | chrisbrogan.com, Aug 2008

You should read the whole article.

Last few weeks have been busy. After four months of flat sharing with my italian friend Marcello, I moved flat at the end of February. I am now living on my own again in a sobre atico located in the lovely neighborhood of San Gervasi (10 minutes away from Gracia). Work at Linqia is more and more challenging as I keep working on a project which is critical for the business :-) I went skiing a few times; two weeks ago we did a day trip near Andorra with the CEG and last weekend I went with Christina and Alex at La Molina. It was so crowded. I love so much better touring ski as you can spend days in the middle of the mountains away from the crowd, the noise and pollution. Waow, I love the mountains so much. On Thursday, I am leaving to Benasque with Yann to do the Posets, supposelly one of the best ski trip in the Pyrenees. I will keep you posted on my return.

Last weekend was my second trip with the CEG which was organised by Jordi Pi. There were eleven people in the group and most of them had already extended experience of mountaineering. This trip was a bit more serious than the previous one as we would have to climb Pic Peguera (2983m) located in the Park of Aiguestortes (Pyrenees). This is not an easy climb especially during the winter as the last section of the ascent is steep and the snow on the rocks makes it hazardous. We left as usual Barcelona on Saturday morning and drove to a small village in the middle of nowhere. We left the cars and started the hike towards the Refuge Colomina (2395m). We reached the refuge at around 15:30 after walking through beautifull landscapes. The refuge is nice but unfortunately there was no heating and hence it was bloody freezing. We had the usual dinner (food was okay) and then went to bed at 21:00. On Sunday, we woke early at 06:00, packed our mochillas and the we had a quick breakfast. We got ready to start the hike at 07:00 sharp; it was still dark, and we wore the crampons since the snow was still hard and icy. The itinerary was fantastic; we passed closed to frozen lakes and snowy mountains. We finally reached the top of Pic Peguera at around 10:30; we were lucky because the weather was still sunny with blue sky. As we went down and headed back to the refuge, it started to get cloudy and soon it started to snow. At 13:30 the first of us got the refuge where we had some food while waiting for the rest of the group. Once everyone got there, we begun our descent back to the dam where we had left the cars. On the way back to Barcelona, we stopped in a restaurant where we had some typical catalan food – bocadillos, platos combinados, cerveza, calamares, etc. The place was nice and we could even watch the begining of the Barca game. After a long journey, we were back in Barcelona at 22:30. I was nacked and went straight to bed ;-) This was an exciting weekend and I am grateful to Jordi and the rest of the team to make it happen! Pictures are available on Flickr.

I had a great time in the Pyrenees last weekend. This was in fact my first trip with the Club Excursionista de Gracia which I recently joined. There were 19 people split in to 4 cars as we left Barcelona on Saturday early morning (7:00am) heading to Andorra. After two hours of driving, we stopped in a typical Catalan village for breakfast. I took un bocadillo con tortilla y jamon and un cafe con leche. Delicious :-) Half an hour later we were back in the car and soon arrived in Andorra. We left the car in a remote parking area, got our gear ready, had a quite bite and started the hike nice and easy. The weather was a great (oh I love Spain so much and don’t really miss Belgian’s rain or Reading’s fog). On Sunday we went to the French side of the Pyrenees in the Font-Romeu area, close to Le Lac des Bouillouses where we went snowshoeing for about 5 1/2 hours. Great experience. The people were super nice and not too picky about the fact that I do not speak Catalan. I want more!!!

This is a group picture taken on the way down from Lac des Bouillouses.
